MONROE, La. — Two former Louisiana prison guards will spend time behind bars for covering up abuse of inmates in 2016 when they worked at the Richwood Correctional Center in Louisiana.

The U.S. Justice Department says in a news release Wednesday that 34-year-old Demario Shaffer of Delhi was sentenced to 15 months in prison; 28-year-old David Parker of Tallulah was sentenced to 21 months.

Both pleaded guilty to conspiring to falsify documents in connection with the spraying of a chemical into the faces of kneeling, handcuffed inmates. They were sentenced by a federal judge in Monroe.

Former Capt. Roderick Douglas will be sentenced June 5. He acknowledged using pepper spray on inmates.

Former Lt. Christopher Loring will be sentenced July 3. He stood by during the abuse and participated in the coverup.
