ASUNCION, Paraguay — The leader of the Brazilian criminal organization Pure Third Command has been captured in Paraguay’s capital and will be expelled from the country.

Carlos Eduardo Sales Cardoso is known as Capile. He was arrested Saturday along with five members of his family in an exclusive residential area during an operation in which 3,000 reales ($11,800) and 86 high-end watches were also seized. Paraguay’s National Anti-Drug Secretariat said in a statement that police found no weapons.

“This arrest marks significant damage to the hierarchical structure of Pure Third Command, an organization that gained supremacy in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, with the absolute leadership of Capile at the helm of the most reckless actions,” the statement said.

Capile will be transferred to Brazil to face homicide and drug trafficking charges.
