Detroit Lions quarterback among 1st drivers stopped by bridge that fell across Detroit freeway

By The Associated Press

DETROIT – Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was among the first drivers to stop after a pedestrian bridge was pulled down onto a Detroit freeway by a truck.

The team says Stafford is OK. He was on his way to the team’s practice facility in Allen Park on Friday morning and was picked up by team security.

Stafford was seen on the Southfield Freeway shortly after the bridge went down, walking on the roadway and talking to police. Police say the truck driver died after hitting the bridge, pulling it down onto the roadway below and snarling rush-hour traffic.

The Lions are preparing for Sunday’s game road game against the New York Jets.
