Radiation spike in seawater outside Fukushima

There are more shocking developments at Japan’s crippled Fukushima nuclear plant, Wednesday.

Officials now said the level of radioactivity detected in the seawater outside the plant has doubled in a matter of days. Those levels are 3,300 times the normal.

It’s not yet known how this is getting into the ocean.

We’re also getting some insight into the hellish conditions inside the Fukushima plant. CNN’s Paula Hancocks said workers are dealing with as they risk their lives to prevent a catastrophe.

“One e-mail leaked to the media was sent from a worker at the plant to a worker in Tokyo. A TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company) spokesperson has verified their authenticity. The plant worker writes, ‘crying is useless; if we’re in hell now, all we can do now is crawl up towards heaven’,” Hancocks reported

An official with Japan’s nuclear watchdog spent five days at the facility and reports that conditions are harsh. Food and water are being rationed, with just two meals a day and only crackers for breakfast.

There are no showers, so workers have to clean themselves with wet wipes. They’ve also had to sleep on led mats to shield themselves from radiation.
