Purcell’s Cove death ruled homicide by police, victim identified

HALIFAX – Regional police have identified a woman found dead inside a home in Purcell’s Cove on Saturday and say her death has now been ruled a homicide.

A 911 call brought officers to the home at 17 Oceanview Drive, off of Purcell’s Cove Road, around 7:45 a.m. Saturday, where they discovered the body of 32-year-old Kristin Elizabeth Johnston.

One man was arrested at the scene and taken to hospital, but was released pending the treatment of his “significant,” but non-life threatening injuries.

He remains the only person of interest in the murder, as police said they are currently not looking for other suspects.

A second man was taken from the scene voluntarily to be spoken with by investigators, but his involvement was ruled out, and he left police headquarters on Saturday afternoon.

An autopsy was conducted on Sunday morning but Johnston’s cause of death has not been released.

In a release, police spokesperson Theresa Rath said, “Our thoughts are with her family in the wake of this tragedy.”
