Atlantic Canada ferry services receive federal budget cash

OTTAWA – Nova Scotia ferry services to P.E.I. and New Brunswick are being promised some cash from the federal government.

Federal Agriculture Minister and P.E.I. Liberal MP Lawrence MacAulay says the budget proposes to provide $51.9 million in 2016 and 2017.

The money will be used on a cash basis to support the continued operation of three ferry services in Atlantic Canada, including funding for two Nova Scotia points of service between Caribou and Wood Islands, P.E.I., and between Digby and Saint John, New Brunswick.

Money was also announced for the ferry run between Iles de la Madeleine, Quebec and Souris, P.E.I.
