Public Gardens evacuated – man arrested after making claims about a hidden gun

HALIFAX – A 24 year old man was released without charges after being questioned by Halifax police who closed the Public Gardens over the noon hour.

Halifax Regional Police Constable Pierre Bourdages says officers were called in just after 11am to a complaint about a man wandering around talking to himself about a gun being hidden in the Gardens.

“We eventually located the 24-year old man in the are of the Public Garden around 11:35” said Constable Bourdages.

“That individual was not armed. There is no indication, no sightings of a firearm but officers and a K-9 unit are doing a thorough search of the (Public Gardens).”

Bourdages says people were kept out of the park until the officers give the all clear, which happened around one this afternoon. Police say nothing suspicious was found and the man was not charged with anything.
