Emera posts strong financial results, citing New England growth, Maritime Link

HALIFAX – Emera Inc. says its operating revenues grew last year by 8.3 per cent to $2.2 billion in year-end results released Monday.

The Halifax-based utilities company says the value of its total assets surged to $8.9 billion as of Dec. 31, up by 17.8 per cent from the year before.

CEO Chris Huskilson says last year was one of substantial progress for the company, citing growth in the New England market with its acquisition of gas plants as well as the Maritime Link project receiving final regulatory approval.

That development would ship hydroelectricity from the Muskrat Falls project from Newfoundland to Cape Breton.

Huskilson says Emera is now working to complete financing of the $1.5-billion Maritime Link during the first half of this year.
