Canadian MPs anxiously awaiting U.S. presidential election results

OTTAWA, Ont. – The election race in the United States will have many ministers and MP’s in Ottawa keeping a close eye on their televisions.

Most opposition members are openly cheering for an Obama win, like Liberal Hedy Fry. “I hope Obama wins of course,” said Fry.  I just think he is the best thing for America.”

Conservatives on the other hand, are keeping quiet, saying that regardless of who sits in the White House; Canadian jobs are affected by the American economy.

“The relationship between our two countries is critical,” said Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver. “We do more trade with the United States then any two countries in the world.”

The government has said that no matter who wins the election, the priority will continue to be working with the United States to boost jobs and the economy on both sides of the border.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper won’t be in Ottawa for the election. He will be getting constant briefs and monitoring the results from India where he is on a state visit.

U.S. Ambassador David Jacobson will host some VIP’ at the Fairmont Chateau Laurier Tuesday night. He has invited 400 guests to his election celebration in the drawing room at the Chateau Laurier starting at 5 p.m.  He will speak at 6 p.m. before the first results start rolling in around 7 p.m.
