Moosehead’s GM disapproves league’s decision not to suspend after hit

The Moosehead’s General Manager is reacting to the leagues decision to not issue a suspension after a major hit laid-out one of the teams star players.

The teams star forward is now recovering from a concussion.

Quebec Remparts’ Adam Erne hit Jonathan Drouin from behind, sending him head first into the boards during Friday night’s home game.

Erne was removed for the remainder of the game, but General Manager Cam Russell says he would have liked to see a suspension handed out.

“His back is to the player, the player still finishes the check on him, pushes him into the boards, he’s cut open, he’s concussed and surprisingly there’s no suspension on it which we have a hard time understanding,” said Russell.

Russell said Erne is a repeat offender when it comes to hits.

“You break the rules, you have to be held accountable,” said Russell.

In the same game Darcy Ashley took an illegal cross-check to the throat and a suspension wasn’t given out in that case, either, said Russell.

Drouin is supposed to be headed to tryouts for the World Junior Team on Thursday.

Russell said he’ll be assessed on a day to day basis to see if he’s fit to head back out on the ice.
