Rypien tribute at Canucks game tonight

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) –  It will be an emotional night at Rogers Arena tonight when the Vancouver Canucks open up a three-game homestand against the New York Rangers.  The team will feature a seven-minute pre-game video tribute to the late Rick Rypien.  The 27-year-old was found dead in August.

Ryan Kesler also makes his return to the line-up after undergoing hip surgery in July.  He’ll be back on the second line with Cody Hodgson and Chris Higgins as his wingers.

The Canucks are expected to give their number one goaltender all three starts in their upcoming homestand but backup goalie Cory Schneider has an edge on Roberto in the numbers game.

Schneider (1-1) who has had an usual amount of work early in the NHL season has a 2.03 goals against average compared to Luongo’s (1-1-1) 3.61 GAA.  Luongo is known to be a slow starter, prior to this season he is 18-20-2 in October starts.

This is the first and only meeting of the season between the Canucks and Rangers.  The Rangers beat Vancouver 1-0 at Madison Square Garden last January, but they’re winless in three games this year.

Game time is 7 p.m.
