LISTEN : Premier says Atlantic Canada, Nova Scotia will continue to focus on renewable energy

HALIFAX – Nova Scotia premier Stephen McNeil says each province will continue down the road of finding its own unique way to contribute to reducing the carbon footprint after the first ministers’ meeting on tackling climate change in Vancouver.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Premier’s of each province announced carbon pricing would be brought into Canada, but specifics are not yet known.
In and interview with NEWS 95.7, Premier McNeil said Atlantic Canada has a tremendous amount of renewable energy to help reduce Nova Scotia’s carbon footprint and his vision is for a Atlantic and Central Canada to connect and create a stable energy environment.
“We’ve got Muskrat Falls coming on … I believe there’s a tremendous opportunity to grow that further with Gull Island,” McNeil said, while at the same time opening exported markets down into New England and upper New York.
Trudeau said the premiers will get together to talk again in the fall after four working groups meet over the next few months. McNeil said the fact the Prime Minister is sitting down and talking with Premiers’ is a tremendous thing for the country.
