Calgary man in wheelchair straps himself to snowblower, digs out neighbours

By The Canadian Press

CALGARY – A Calgary man in a wheelchair is being called a snow angel for helping his neighbours dig out from a major storm by strapping himself to a snowblower.

Martin Purvis just hooked himself to the self-propelled machine and got down to it, clearing drifts in the cold.

Wearing a red tuque and a big smile Purvis cleaned his own driveway and a few others in his neighbourhood.

He says it took him a few tries to figure out how to attach his wheelchair to the snowblower but finally found the sweet spot.

Purvis says while he had fun, big snow storms can be quite a challenge for people with mobility issues.

Some people on social media were heartened by his positive attitude.

“When the snow angel is actually the guy you think needs one,” Heather Roscorla said in a post on Twitter. “Martin Purvis YOU DA MAN!! Heroes come in many forms.”

The Purvis family posted a video of his snow clearing antics online. (CFFR)
