Top security specialists in Halifax for conference

Top security specialists from all around the globe are descending upon the Maritimes for the Halifax International Security Forum.

For the next three days, Halifax will be buzzing with world leaders in international security and foreign policy with delegates flying in from as far away as India and Egypt.

Conversations will focus on the major security issues of the last calendar year.

Halifax International Security Forum president Peter Van Praagh said the forum will have a focus on the challenges faced by democratic nations.

“The Halifax International Security Forum is the only one in the world that only invites representatives from democracies from around the world,” said Van Praagh, “It really helps enhance the conversations on coming up with cooperative plans for moving forward.”

American Senator John McCain will also be in town as part of a large US congressional delegation.

The Canadian Government has promised $9.8 million toward the forum for the next five years.

Just over $6 million will come from the National Defence Department, with the rest coming from the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.
