Payroll earnings rise in May with growth in five major industrial sectors

OTTAWA – Statistics Canada says average weekly earnings of non-farm payroll employees rose to $894.61 in May, up 0.5 per cent from April.
The agency says earnings increased 2.5 per cent on a year-over-year basis.
The increase during reflects a number of factors, including wage growth and changes in the composition of employment by industry, occupation and level of job experience.
StatsCan says non-farm payroll employees worked an average of 32.9 hours per week, unchanged from April and from last year.
Weekly earnings rose for people working in the construction, educational services, retail trade, accommodation and food services sectors.
But earnings declined in health care and social assistance.
StatsCan says total non-farm payroll employment rose by 76,900 between April and May, the third consecutive monthly increase.
