Terror suspects had electrical components to make IEDs

OTTAWA – The RCMP said three men arrested on terrorism charges had electronic components which could be used to make improvised explosive devices.

Police seized 50 electronic circuit boards which they said could be used as remote-control triggers for bombs.

They also said one of the men was trained overseas to make explosive booby traps.

Court documents said the terrorism plot ranged from Canada to Iran, Afghanistan, Dubai and Pakistan.

According to documents filed in provincial court in Ottawa, all three conspired with an additional three named individuals to “knowingly facilitate terrorist activities” in Canada and abroad.

Hiva Alizadeh, 30, of Ottawa faces charges of conspiracy, committing an act for terrorism purposes and providing or making available property for terrorism purposes.

Misbahuddin Ahmed, 26, of Ottawa is charged with conspiracy to commit a terrorist offense.

And Khurran Syed Sher, 28, a medical graduate from McGill University in Montreal, now living in southern Ontario, is also charged.

The RCMP believe Alizadeh is a member of a terrorist group with links to Afghanistan.

Alizadeh is also charged with making or having “an explosive substance” with the intent to endanger life or cause serious damage to property.

The Toronto Star reported one of the the suspects, Sher, auditioned for “Canadian Idol.”

In the 2008 “Canadian Idol” audition, he told judges that he hailed from Pakistan and was a fan of “hockey, music and acting.” See audition video below (courtesy of YouTube)
