HAMMONDS PLAINS – A 17-year-old teenager is dead and another was arrested after a single-vehicle crash in a Hammonds Plains subdivision Friday morning.

RCMP tell NEWS 95.7 officers responded to a crash on Rochester Drive around 9:15 a.m. Friday where a car had lost control and crashed.

The 17-year-old male passenger inside the car died in the crash while the 17-year-old male driver was arrested.

RCMP Corporal Jennifer Clarke said the driver only sustained minor injuries, and was transported hospital before being taken into police custody.

The driver of the vehicle has since been released from custody without charges, but charges could be laid at a later date.

The name of the deceased has not been released at this time, but Clarke said next of kin has been notified of his death.

RCMP remain on the scene Friday afternoon with Rochester Drive blocked off to traffic in both directions.
