RCMP have charged two people with second degree murder in the homicides of two Spryfield men almost 5-years ago.
Fire officials found the bodies of 22-year-old Matthew Allan Hebb and 59-year-old Earle Clayton Stewart after being called to a fire at a camp near Sheet Harbour on December 12, 2012.
Elmer Percy Higgins, 65, and Karen Marie Higgins, 49, were arrested in Halifax without incident Wednesday.
Police say the pair had been arrested on December 18, 2012, and again in March 2017, but were released both times without charges.
Cpl. Dal Hutchinson with the Halifax District RCMP told NEWS 95.7 investigations like this are complex.
“Investigations are based on facts and evidence which take time to collect, there’s many factors at play,” he said. “The members were very diligent and did a thorough investigation here which resulted in two individuals being charged.”
Both also face firearms charges and are scheduled to be in Dartmouth Provincial Court later today.
