Residents asked to not park on certain downtown streets overnight

By Leah Batstone

HALIFAX – The city is asking people to keep their parked cars off certain stretches of road in downtown Halifax and Dartmouth, so more overnight snow-clearing can be completed.

Because the overnight parking ban isn’t in effect, the city says residents are welcome to park in areas where crews are not working.

The areas that will be off-limits to parked cars from Tuesday at 11 p.m. until Wednesday at 7 a.m. are the following:

  • Barrington St. from Cogswell to Duke streets
  • Duke St. from Brunswick to Argyle streets
  • Argyle St. from Carmichael to Blowers streets
  • Blowers St. from Market to Barrington streets
  • Portland St. from King Street to Alderney Drive
  • King St., Wentworth St. and Dundas St., each from Portland St. to Alderney Dr.

The sections listed above will be marked off by barricades, so it is clear where the overnight snow-clearing is taking place.

Vehicles will be allowed to drive on those sections of road, but anyone parked in those areas overnight could be ticketed or towed under the Motor Vehicle Act.
