Salami recalled over botulism fears

A recall has been issued for a locally sold brand of salami due to concerns over botulism.

Webbersfood Limited has recalled their caraway-pepper salami because it could permit the growth of a dangerous bacteria.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says is was sold unlabelled on April 9th at Brewery Square’s Historic Farmers Market.

The agency warns foods contaminated with Clostridium botulinum may not look or smell spoiled, but can still make you sick.

Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, blurred or double vision, dry mouth, respiratory failure and paralysis, in severe cases of illness, people could die.

The CFIA says the product should be thrown out or returned, it should not be consumed.

So far, there have been no reported illnesses.
