Locally sold mustard relish recalled over botulism fears

A recall has been issued for a Nova Scotia made mustard relish because of the potential presence of a dangerous bacteria.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says HardyWares Mustard Relish could permit the growth of Clostridium botulinum, which causes botulism.

The agency warns contaminated foods may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick.

Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, fatigue, dizziness, blurred or double vision, dry mouth, respiratory failure and paralysis, in severe cases of illness, people could die.

The 250 ML jars were packaged on December 3rd, 2015.

The CFIA says the product should be thrown out or returned, it should not be consumed.

According to HardyWares’ website, their products are sold at the Alderney Farmer’s Market and East Coast Made Emporium in Bedford Place Mall.

So far, there have been no reported illnesses.
