Much of Halifax still snowed-in as cancellations continue

It’s officially the last full day of winter, but the season is refusing to loosen its icy grip on Nova Scotia.

Haligonians continue to dig out from the biggest storm of the year.

News 95.7 meteorologist Richard Zurawski said this snow dump was in the same league as the legendary White Juan.

“The total snowfall amount recorded at the Halifax airport came in at about 45-50 centimetres,” he said.  “In and around the Halifax-Dartmouth-Bedford region, we have reliable reports that give us about 60 to 70 millimetres of water equivalent.”

Zurawski said that equates to about 60 to 70 centimetres of snow.

He said Halifax ended up the with the heaviest snowfall in the province.

Municipal officials say cleaning up all that mess could take weeks.

The say at this point, the aim is to get the city cleaned up for the morning commute on Monday, March 23rd.
