RCMP search for stabbing suspect

RCMP are searching for a suspect after a stabbing in the Mount Uniacke area.

Shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday, RCMP responded to a report of a possible stabbing on Highway 1 in Mount Uniacke.

Police say two men forcibly entered the home of a 53-year-old mount uniacke man who was alone.

Once inside, they say an altercation occurred and the 53-year-old man was stabbed.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance with undetermined injuries.

The two men are described as being in their early 20’s, wearing toques along with light brown jackets and pants, and they both fled the scene in a dark red minivan and headed towards Sackville.

Police say this was not a random act.

Earlier, Uniacke District School was in a precautionary hold and secure procedure due to an “incident” in the community, but that ended by dismissal time, and students were sent home as usual.

Chignecto-Central Regional School Board spokesperson Debbie Buott–Matheson told News 95.7, inside the building it was business as usual.

“Students change classes, they go to the cafeteria, they use the washrooms, but what it means is that no one goes outside the school and no one comes inside the school,” said Buott–Matheson.

She said there was no need for alarm, and the action was being undertaken only as a precaution.
