Slingshot incident at Halifax Shopping Centre

Two teenage boys will appear in youth court on Tuesday after allegedly firing a slingshot at a city bus.

It happened around 6:30 Saturday night at the Halifax Shopping Centre.

Regional Police Sergeant Stephanie Carlisle says they received numerous calls of shots fired, and officers from two divisions, as well as a K-9 Unit and the Emergency Response Team responded.

“The bus was struck by something, but we believed a firearm was not involved,” she said. “There were subsequent searches of the area. Seven youths were found in the area between the ages of 13 and 17, and nearby their vicinity, two slingshots were located.”

Carlisle says the foiled plot of a mass shooting at the Halifax Shopping Centre had an effect on the police response.

“I’m sure that our response was heightened, as were the people on the scene, based on what has occurred over the last couple days,” she said.

Nova Scotia RCMP said Friday an alleged plan by at least two suspects to carry out “mass killings” of civilians at the mall  on Valentine’s Day was foiled.
