Halifax police arrest man on child porn charges

Halifax police say they’ve arrested a man on child pornography charges.
Police allege 21-year-old Matthew Carlson Lewis contacted a 16-year-old girl online and tried to “obtain nude photos of her” in late 2014. They say the victim and the accused never met in person.
After searching an apartment in the 6200 block of Chebucto Road in Halifax on Thursday, police arrested Lewis and seized computer equipment.
Lewis is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on March 19 to face charges of possession of child pornography, making sexually explicit material available to a child and luring a child for the purpose of making child pornography.
He was released from custody under conditions to not communicate with children under the age of 16, not possess a device able to access the internet and not be within 50 meters of a place frequented by children.
