Helicopter rescues woman with leg injury from wooded Nova Scotia trail

ECONOMY, NOVA SCOTIA – The Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Halifax says a woman was taken to hospital after being airlifted out of the woods in Nova Scotia.

Spokesman Maj. Martel Thompson says a search and rescue Cormorant helicopter from Greenwood was called to a wooded area in Economy around 9 p.m. Sunday.

Thompson says the woman had somehow injured her leg while hiking on a trail.

He says the helicopter spotted the woman and her companion about eight kilometres into the trail and was able to hoist both people onto the chopper.

She was taken to a nearby hospital.
