Enfield RCMP say they will likely not lay charges in an apparent kidnapping.
Police say they received a report around 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, of an 18-year-old man being kidnapped at gunpoint in Elmsdale.
Sgt. Craig Burnett says the man was found safe shortly after, and four men were taken in for questioning then released.
“The victim is cooperative, yet doesn’t want anything to proceed. So I don’t think we’re going to be able to get anything to court, even though it was quite a serious event,” said Burnett.
“This guy would be our main witness, victim, storyteller if you will. He’s adamant about not taking it any further, and that may be for fear of personal retribution or whatever his reasons are. That may be where it ends.”
He said the four alleged kidnappers may have abducted the wrong person, but he’s not sure who the actual target was.
He adds, the initial report of a gun being used in the incident was false. The investigation remains open.
