Overnight search leads to an arrest in Dartmouth triple stabbing

Dartmouth’s Birch Cove Park was the scene of a violent attack last night, according to Halifax Regional Police.

Sgt. Kevin McNeil said a group of young men were fighting when three of them got stabbed.

“Three of them had been stabbed by what was believed to be a single suspect, who fled prior to police arriving,” he said. “The three victims, two aged 18 and one 19, were tended to by paramedics and transported to the hospital.”

McNeil said none of the stab wounds were life threatening.

He said the lone suspect — a 16-year-old boy — fled the scene on foot, but was found a few hours later in the 300 block of Portland Street.

“Several police units, including K-9s, scoured the area for the suspect and attempted to identify witnesses. Officers searched for him in the hours following the incident, and he was located and arrested exiting a small wooded area, just after 3 a.m.”

McNeil said the suspect is currently in custody, and no charges have been laid yet. He said the matter is still being investigated.
