One teen shot, another stabbed at Canada Day concert in Dartmouth

Halifax Regional Police continue to look for a suspect after a pair of violent attacks sent two teens to hospital during Tuesday night’s Canada Day concert in Dartmouth.

Staff Sgt. Reid McCoombs said a 19-year-old man was taken to the QEII after he was found him in the Alderney Landing playground area with two stab wounds to his abdomen at about 9:20 p.m.

Police say a 19-year-old suspect was arrested nearby about 10 minutes later. He’s still in police custody and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face charges of assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon.

Police also say the victim in the stabbing incident has been released from hospital.

About 40 minutes later, McCoombs said an 18-year-old with a gunshot to his leg was taken to the hospital, following another incident at the concert grounds.

“A male was brought to the police suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg,” he said. “He was transported to the QEII hospital. Officers were unable to locate the exact location where the shooting took place.”

Police are still looking for a suspect in that case and say there’s no indication the two attacks are related.

Halifax Police are investigating both incidents, and are asking people with any information on the suspects to come forward.
