RCMP charge a Dartmouth woman with defrauding Halifax Police Union

Halifax – Members with the RCMP Financial Crime Unit have laid four charges against a 47-year old Dartmouth woman who had been working as a Benefit Plan Administrator from the Halifax Regional Police Association.

Forty-seven year old Mary Louise MacDonald is facing two counts of Fraud Over $5,000, one count of Forgery and one count of Uttering Forged Document.

Sergeant Bridgit Leger says the case was refered to the RCMP Federal Policing Financial Crime section in June 2013. They thought there was money missing from the Halifax Regional Police Dedication to Duty Fund, an independent employee social account.

Independent audits conducted on both the Halifax Regional Police Dedication to Duty Fund and Halifax Regional Police Association account revealed a Benefit Plan Administrator who co-managed the fund and account, stole in excess of $600,000 over the past 3.5 years from both.

MacDonald is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on June 25th, 2014 and she’s free on conditions at this time.
