Hit-and-run crash injures two women on the sidewalk in North End Halifax

Police say the driver of white sport utility vehicle was at fault in a three-vehicle crash in north-end Halifax that sent two women to hospital Wednesday afternoon with serious injuries.

It happened a little after 2 p.m. at North and Agricola near Gus’ Pub.

One of the vehicles spun out and hit two women on the sidewalk.

One woman was pinned between a car and a utility pole and is being treated for serious injuries including multiple broken bones. The other woman was thrown some distance and is said to have less serious injuries. Both remain in hospital.

Police hope the public can help investigators track down the SUV involved in the crash.

The white SUV will have significant front-end damage. Police say it fled the scene northbound on Agricola.

“We would appreciate if any member of the public sees a vehicle that may fit that description to forward that information to police so we can follow up,” says Staff Sgt. Lindsay Hernden. “If any auto shops or garages find themselves working on a vehicle that might fit that description, it would be quite helpful if they would pass that information on to police.”

Traffic through and around the intersection was blocked for several hours, reopening just before 5 p.m.
