Lower Sackville man sentenced to another nine years for killing his neighbour, 76

A man who stabbed his elderly neighbour to death in 2010 has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

Nicholas White, 27, pleaded guilty to manslaughter last week in the death of Joseph Walker, 76. The two lived in the same building and were drinking together the night Walker was killed.

White was first charged with second-degree murder after he was found drunk in a graveyard near the Cobequid Road apartment where the senior was laying face-down in a pool of blood.

No motive was ever explained, and White says he does not remember the killing.

The judge accepted a joint sentencing recommendation of twelve years in prison, minus three years credit for time served.
