Flurries to impede Friday traffic

A bout of wintery weather is expected to make the Friday drive home slippery.

A low-pressure system is rolling over the Maritimes and Halifax is expected to deliver between five and 10 centimeters of snow, as well as a mix of rain.

“So it’s that greasy, slushy, heavy heart attack snow type of snow that we are getting,” News 95.7 meteorologist Richard Zurawski said Friday morning. “It will gradually taper off this evening and tonight to flurries. Then everything is going to freeze rock solid afterward.”

The snow is expected to start this morning with flurries becoming more prominent in the afternoon.

The temperature is expected to drop to -10 overnight and stay cold through the weekend, with an additional two to five cm of snow on Saturday.

Mild temperatures are expected to return next week.
