Fatal crash with snowplow blamed on snowy weather

A young woman has died after a car crashed into a snowplow on a slippery, snow-covered highway.

The crash occurred during Thursday’s snowfall, on Highway 210 in Lunenburg Country.

RCMP say a 29-year-old woman who was driving the car lost control around 11:30 A.M. and slid into the path of the oncoming snowplow.

They say she was from Chelsea but did not release her name, pending notification of next of kin.

A 31-year-old man who was a passenger in the car was taken to the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater with undetermined injuries.

The driver of the snowplow was not hurt.

The crash was one of dozens blamed on Thursday’s snow.

Regional police and RCMP issued two joint news releases yesterday, both warning drivers to exercise caution and stating there had been several collisions on the 100-series highways around HRM. Police also responded to dozens of minor collisions throughout the day.

Environment Canada reports 4.8 cm of snow fell at Halifax Stanfield International Airport.
