Nova Scotia’s health minister is looking into a request by two Halifax hospitals to be allowed to approach former patients for donations.
The QEII and IWK foundations have asked the province to make amendments to recent legislation so they can access patients’ personal information.
Health Minister Maureen MacDonald tells the Herald she is concerned about how fundraising letters would affect families of patients who have died, or parents of deceased children.
MacDonald says she also realizes the great work foundations do to raise extra money for the hospitals.
The minister is asking for more information on the request and details on how people’s privacy would be protected.
