VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – B.C. tourism industry is largely reaping the benefits six months after the Olympics, except for one sector.
Sophie Pierre with the Aboriginal Tourism Association of B.C. says the post-Olympic boom they were hoping for has been sluggish. “It’s slower than anyone has hoped for, but we have a growing awareness and a growing interest in Aboriginal tourism and certainly that started with the Olympics.”
But Pierre is hopeful that will turn around. “A year ago, Aboriginal cultural tourism was considered just a small speck on the fabric of tourism, if you will. Now, we’re part of that fabric.”
This morning a cultural corner for aboriginal tourism was unveiled at the Burrard Street tourist info site downtown.
