One teen stabbed, three arrested after violent fight over missing wallet

A confrontation between two groups of young people near the Halifax Commons has ended with a stabbing.

Police say the two groups of roughly five teens aside planned the meeting for one group to get a missing wallet back from the other.

They met up near Robie and Cunard around 9:30 Monday night.

“At that time, a disturbance broke out and one of the youths was stabbed in the side of the abdomen,” said Sgt. Paul Robertson, who adds the teen has been hospitalized and is expected to survive.

Robertson says more than one of the teens were armed. Two knives were recovered, along with a third weapon.

“Three youths have been charged and they’re facing weapons-related offences and disturbance charges,” he said.

Robertson says the decision for two groups of youths to arm themselves and meet in public to settle a dispute doesn’t mean there’s a concern about gang activity in the neighbourhood.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a concern for the area,” he said. “It just happened to be the area where they decided to meet. And these youths are known to one another through their school.”

It’s the fourth stabbing in metro since Friday, and the third involving teens in a week.
