Operation Christmas nabs ‘blind drunk’ driver

The anti-drunk driving campaign dubbed “Operation Christmas” is only one day old and already Halifax traffic officers have made a notable arrest.

Sgt. Mike Spearns tells News 95.7 one of his officers pulled a woman over on Thursday morning who blew .240 on the breathalyzer – three times the legal limit.

He says it shows there are still plenty of people out there being irresponsible.

“You know, every day, we get behind the wheel of our car, we have our families, we’re going to do our grocery shopping, whatever errands,” he said. “And then someone with a blood alcohol level of 240 has the nerve to get behind the wheel of a car and then aim it at us.”

Spearns says police in Halifax, Lunenburg and Bridgewater will be running daily and nightly check points until New Year’s Eve.

Fines for drunk driving start at $1200 and come with a three-month suspension for first time offences.
