Atlantic Canada’s first ever We Day sees success

More than 8000 screaming youth activists filled the Metro Center today for Atlantic Canada’s first ever We Day.

Students from more than 240 schools from PEI, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia are in town for the festivities.

We Day Atlantic Canada is free to attend but students were required to earn their way in by making charitable acts to one local and one global initiative.

Nova Scotia’s Premier Stephen McNeil was on hand to congratulate the students for their contributions.

“We say thank you to all of you for the tremendous work and dedication you have shown Nova Scotia and all of Atlantic Canada,” said McNeil. “You’ve shown what can happen with the power of one and the spirit of so many.”

Speakers and performers at the event included Martin Luther King III, Shawn Desman, and Kardinal Offishall.

Because of the weather and flight delays, Martin Sheen was unable to make an appearance.
