Dance studio owner in dispute with Burton Cummings fined for noise ticket

MOOSE JAW, Sask. — The owner of a dance fitness studio who was embroiled in a loud music dispute with Canadian rock legend Burton Cummings has pleaded guilty to a noise bylaw ticket.

Kyra Klassen of Kyra’s Dance Fitness Studio was fined $150 in Moose Jaw, Sask.

She plans to relocate her business in May.

Klassen said she moved into the mixed-use building nearly one year ago.

The Guess Who singer lives in a neighbouring residential building.

There were no problems at first, but then Klassen said she started to get messages, complaints and visits from Cummings himself about the loudness of her music.

Klassen has said she worked with her landlord to add soundproofing to the studio and didn’t think she was breaking any laws.

Police eventually laid six noise bylaw charges.

The other charges were dropped after her guilty plea to one ticket. (Discover Moose Jaw, The Canadian Press)
