NEW YORK, N.Y. – Longtime New York City Ballet leader Peter Martins has been removed from teaching a weekly class at the School of American Ballet during an investigation into a sexual harassment allegation.
The ballet and the school say in statements issued to The Associated Press that they have engaged a law firm to look into general, nonspecific claims made in an anonymous letter.
They say that to date, no allegations have been substantiated.
The school says the safety and well-being of its students is its “absolute priority.” It says current findings indicate there’s “no reason to be concerned.”
Martins, asked to respond, told The New York Times: “The company has already addressed it.”
Martins is the artistic director and chairman of the ballet school’s faculty. He has led City Ballet since the 1980s.
