Provincial regulator slaps restrictions on comic-book movie

The UARB has slapped an 18-A rating and the caption “brutal violence” on a new movie opening today.

That means anyone who wants to see “Kick-Ass” must be 18 years old, or accompanied by an adult – and anyone younger than 14 can’t go at all.

The UARB made the decision based on the frequency and intensity of violence in the movie.

Maple Pictures, the movie’s distributor, was disappointed with the ruling.
Senior Vice President Andrew Austin tells the Herald the film received a less restrictive rating in other places.

But he manager of Strange Adventures comic book shop in Halifax says the comic book “Kick-Ass” contains an “insane” amount of violence and the harshest language possible.

Dave Howlett says it’s definitely not for anyone under 18.
