Emera reports $231M Q4 profit compared with a $228M loss a year ago

HALIFAX — Emera Inc. says it earned $231 million in its latest quarter compared with a loss of $228 million in the same quarter a year earlier.

The power utility says the profit amounted to 98 cents per share for the three months ended Dec. 31.

That compared with a loss of $1.06 per share a year ago when it had fewer shares outstanding.

On an adjusted basis, Emera say it earned $167 million or 71 cents per share for the quarter compared with an adjusted profit of $137 million or 64 cents per share a year ago.

Analysts on average had expected an adjusted profit of 67 cents per share, according to Thomson Reuters Eikon.

Based in Halifax, Emera holds investments in power generation and electricity and gas transmission and distribution in North America and four Caribbean countries.
