Mark Russell with Garlic Mountain Farm in St Margarets Bay is getting ready to plant thousands of garlic cloves this fall, but he's also making vermicompost to enrich the soil. We'll get some garlic-planting tips from Mark and hear about his composting process. Award-winning author, photographer, and lecturer Ken Druse has a new book coming out on October 15th, The Scentual Garden: Exploring the World of Botanical Fragrance. This new work is a celebration of fragrant plants and offers detailed discussions on how and why plants produce fragrances, how plants 'communicate' with each other, and how botanical fragrances affect us. You won't want to miss a word! Jamie Ellison teaches horticulture at NSCC's Kentville campus. Jamie is an avid collector of rare and specialty plants including alpines & succulents. He's also an accomplished photographer and lecturer; he gives talks across Canada and the US. We'll talk about some of his favourite plants for autumn - beautiful fruits and berries, fall foliage, and more! Valerie Hearder is a part of Talking Trees, a group of Mahone Bay residents dedicated to preserving the urban forest in their beautiful town. The goal is to plant 100 trees to celebrate Mahone Bay’s Centennial year and to enrich the town for the next 100 years.
