NDP leader voices concerns over fee to join N.S. liberal fundraising club

By Chris Halef

HALIFAX – The province’s NDP leader is raising questions regarding a $750 fee to join a liberal fundraising club, that he says gives people unfair access to the liberal party and the premier.

Gary Burrill says this is no way for our government to be operating in a democracy.

The fee in question is to attend the Angus L. Club, which Burrill says amounts to cash for access.

He tells NEWS 95.7 this gives certain people access to the liberal party that others do not have.

“I know all kinds of people who have all kinds of things that need to be said to the premier or the liberal caucus, but don’t have $750 to spare in order to be in the room where they can say them,” said Burrill.

Premier McNeil is calling the Burrill’s questions silly, saying the club is simply another fundraising tool for the liberal party.

According to the liberal party’s website, benefits of the Angus L. Club include invitations to events across the province and “hearing from leading voices on our liberal team,” as well as meeting a “strong network of business and community leaders”.
