Mooseheads lose 6-5 to Remparts in shootout

HALIFAX – In the first shootout game of the season, the Halifax Mooseheads lost to the Québec Remparts 6-5.

Twenty-three seconds into the first period, the Mooseheads’ Connor Moynihan scores the first goal of the game–and his 15th of the season. At 3:58, Cooper Jones of the Mooseheads scores the second goal of the game and his 5th of the season.

Johnathan Bourcier scores for the Remparts, putting them on the board. Not long after, Mooseheads’ Bradley Kennedy restores the two goal cushion for Halifax with his 7th of the season, putting the Herd ahead at 3-1.

Early in the second period, Québec’s Philipp Kurashev scores to close the gap, making it 3-2 for Halifax. Soon after, Jocktan Chainey’s point shot finds its’ way through a maze of bodies in front and gets behind Remparts goalie Callum Booth, restoring the Mooseheads’ two-goal lead.

Bourcier scores for the 2nd time tonight. His 6th goal of the season pulls Québec within one. Then, it takes just 8 seconds on the double-minor for Nico Hischier to score on the power play. His 20th goal of the season has Halifax leading 5-3.

At 6:41 in the third, Matthew Boucher tightens up the score with a goal on Mooshead’s goalie Alexis Gravel. Three minutes later, Olivier Garneau scores, making it a tied game halfway through the period at 5-5.

After no goals were scored in overtime, the teams headed into a shootout. Bourcier shot the only goal, leading Québec to a victory 6-5 over the Herd.

The Mooseheads outshot the Remparts 47-26.
