More fines from NBL Canada following failed Game 7

The National Basketball league of Canada says it’s levying more fines and suspensions after reviewing its investigation into the forfeit of Game 7 between the Halifax Rainmen and the Windsor Express.

Windsor Express head coach Bill Jones is suspended for one year, and gets a $4000 fine, Windsor Express player Tony Bennett is suspended indefinitely pending further review, and Halifax Rainmen assistant coach Pedro Monterio has been fined another $4000 — on top of the $5000 fine and lifetime ban he’d already been given.

The Rainmen were handed a total of $90,000 in fines, including $20,000 for the team and $10,000 for head coach Josep Claros, after the team left Windsor before playing in the championship game.

Rainmen owner Andre Levingston said earlier this week he’s sorry to the fans, the league and Halifax for the way the season ended, and placed blame for the forfeit on Claros — who received a lifetime ban from the league.
