Province hikes most user fees by 3 per cent

Nova Scotia finance minister Diana Whalen delivers her pre-budget speech to the Halifax Chamber of Commerce on March 25, 2015.

The Nova Scotia government is raising most user fees by at least three per cent.

The province says about 1,400 user fees for a wide range of services, licences and permits will be hiked.

Fees for government service organizations, such as school boards and health authorities, will not be affected.

Travel guide advertising, foreign schools and international student fees, and requests for information under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act also are exempt.

The province says a few fees will increase by more than three per cent, including provincial cable and island ferry rates, and food safety fees.

The province expects the fee adjustments will increase revenue by $7.7 million for 2015-16.

Whoopsies, went to pay for that building on the Dartmouth water front and, surprise, not a nickel in the spare change jar. No worry though, the good people of Nova Scotia are happy to anti-up a few more dollars. I got a feeling that building will become another bottomless pit for NS tax payers. For cripes sake, quit spending money that we ain`t got.

Let me guess……increase fees so that the Province can hand over more money to that financially sinking ferry service in Yarmouth. CUT THAT FERRY ADRIFT NOW.

I do not often agree with you but in this case you are 100% correct. How, how can this or any other government come at us for more money when they themselves are fiscally irresponsible and cannot mange their own house. The millions and millions of dollars that they have pissed away on a REPLICA of a ship as well as a ferry that is nothing but a money pit would have made these increases non existent. We do not have any more money to pay these fee increases. I wioll not be paying one more red cent to these leeches. I liken it to this, if you were to give me money and then I am to waste that money and have nothing to show for it, would you give me more money when I inevitably come back for more… HELL NO!!!
