Council clears way for St. Patrick’s High School demolition

It’s the end of the road for St. Patrick’s High School as municipal council voted unanimously to declare it surplus and to come up with a plan to develop the 3.5 acres of prime real estate.

Halifax West Armdale councillor Linda Mosher said she supports the Quinpool Road Business Commission with a mixed used development for the former school site.

“They prefer ground and second floor commercial, and then multiple residential living with landscaped roof decks,” said Mosher.  “They want to encompass all income levels and ages.”

Halifax Peninsula North councillor Jennifer Watts said the public will have a say.

“We will have a community planning process, there will be public engagement around that,” said Watts.

Staff will now work on coming up with the details of disposing of the old school property.
