Most actively traded companies on the TSX, TSX Venture Exchange markets

TORONTO – Some of the most active companies traded Monday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,680.71 up 9.48 points):

Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Miner. Down 53 cents, or 3.31 per cent, at $15.47 on 26.1 million shares.

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Transportation equipment. Down 11 cents, or 2.71 per cent, at $3.95 on 15.5 million shares. The company says it is progressing towards the maiden flight of its new CSeries airplane after fully powering up the main electrical systems on the initial test aircraft and completing stress testing of the wings.

BlackBerry (TSX:BB). Wireless technology. Down 68 cents, or 4.48 per cent, at $14.51 on 10 million shares.

Talisman Energy Inc. (TSX:TLM). Oil and gas. Down 17 cents, or 1.38 per cent, at $12.15 on 5.5 million shares. The energy sector was down 1.94 points, or 0.76 per cent, to 253.06 points.

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Miner. Down 40 cents, or 1.33 per cent, at $29.63 on 3.7 million shares.

Sun Life Financial Inc. (TSX: SLF). Insurer. Down 44 cents, or 1.57 per cent, at $27.53 on 3.1 million shares. President and CEO Dean Connor earned nearly $8 million in total compensation last year, his first full year in the top job, according to information filed Monday. In addition to $950,000 of annual salary, he was awarded shares worth about $2.375 million, a similar amount in options, a $2-million bonus plus other benefits.

Toronto Venture Exchange (1,103.35 down three points):

Eacom Timber Corp. (TSXV:ETR). Timber producer. Unchanged at 37 cents on 16.1 million shares. The Montreal-based company received a friendly takeover offer from Kelso & Co. The cash offer values the mill operator’s equity at $181.8 million.

Fission Energy Corp. (TSXV:FIS). Oil and gas. Up 12 cents, or 11.11 per cent, at $1.20 on 4.7 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

KEYreit (TSX: KRE.UN): Up 25 cents, or 3.37 per cent, at $7.67 on 444,950 shares. The company has agreed to takeover deal from Plazacorp Retail Properties Ltd. (TSXV:PLZ) (Down 20 cents, or 4.12 per cent, at $4.65 on 540,346 shares) and an offer worth $119 million for the small-box retail property owner. Fredericton-based Plazacorp says it will pay $8 per unit in cash or 1.6326 Plazacorp shares for each KEYreit unit in a deal that trumps an earlier, hostile takeover bid of $7.50 per unit by Huntingdon Capital Corp (TSX:HNT) (Dowen seven cents, or 0.56 per cent, at $12.34 on 9,780 shares).

Supremex Inc. (TSX:SXP): Up nine cents, 8.26 per cent, at $1.18 on 179,490 shares. The envelope maker’s shares surged Monday after its largest shareholder offered to pay $19.27 million to buy up the rest of the company it did not already own and take the company private. Halifax-based Clarke Inc. (TSX:CKI) (Unchanged at $4.55), which owns 45.1 per cent of Supremex, says it has made an offer of $1.20 per share for each of the more than 16 million shares in Supremex it doesn’t own.

AltaGas Ltd. (TSX:ALA): Down $1.14, or 3.16 per cent, at $34.90 on 2.2 million shares. The company has agreed to pay US$515 million to buy Blythe Energy LLC, which owns a 507-megawatt power plant in Southern California. In addition to the natural gas-fired generator, the purchase from affiliates of LS Power Equity Advisory LLC includes major spare parts and a 108-kilometre transmission line in the state.
